Ecuador
In Mexico and Guatemala, I was really just flying by the seat of my pants. Ecuador was the part of the adventure when I really started to get a handle on my plans and when I really started to get the hang of being a digital nomad. It was my first stop in South America. I just saw Quito and Cuenca, but I do regret not seeing the Galapagos Islands. I'll be back one day just for that. Other than that, I think the places I stayed were enough Ecuador for me.
I was here for 84 days from 11 Jan 2025 to 4 Apr 2025. Literally just one or two days after booking a non-refundable flight, I heard Ecuador was experiencing a drought, and due to most of their energy coming from hydroelectric power, cities were experiencing planned blackouts lasting from 12 to 15 hours a day. I never experienced a single one. When I got there, they were deep into elections, and I have a feeling the lights were kept on as a political move and an attempt to not lose votes.
