Argentina

Congreso de la Nacion Argentina

Fun fact about Argentina: I was there 84 days and didn't wipe my ass once! They are the land of bidets. Every place I stayed had its very own station to bathe my brown eye after each use.

Argentina is the second-largest country in South America, and it is famous for the three Ms: Meat, Mate, and Messi.

I flew into Buenos Aires and decided I wanted to cross the whole continent by bus. So I went from there to Cordoba, then Mendoza, and finally over the Andes to Santiago, all by bus.

A quick tip for cash exchange: ATMs only allow relatively small withdrawals of around 50,000 ARS ($34). Between fees from your local bank and the Argentine bank, those charges quickly add up. A good workaround is sending one large wire to yourself via Western Union. I signed up for Western Union just for this trip, and they waived the fee on my first wire. I sent the equivalent of $600 USD. Argentina is pretty modern, so most places accept cards, and that single cash pull was enough to last my entire 84 days.

With a US passport, you can get a visa on arrival. I got the full 90 days without much issue. I did have to show where I was staying, but they didn't ask for proof of onward travel.
